Attempt at a Zero Waste Vacation

Over the weekend my family and I stayed at a beach resort in Subic. I had every intention of not leaving anything behind and was so happy when we saw this at their restaurant during dinner after we dropped off our stuff in our room.


Yehey!! They did serve everything in reusable ceramic plates, stainless steel utensils and glasses. When we ordered fresh coconut juice, they used a paper straw. 

After dinner, though, we had a chance to look around our room and found some items in plastic packaging. Hopefully they are trying to use up existing stock.


We ended up bringing these home so we can stuff them in ecobricks. 

Here's another item on my to do list. Maybe I can convince these hotels and resorts to switch to shampoo and lotion bars and bamboo toothbrushes.

An Over Reacting Newbie

When I visit a blog the first entry is typically the blogger's WHY... their purpose for putting up a blog. Who am I to go against that "tradition." I am a mom of one, a step mom of one and a partner of a man who loves the beach as much as his sons do. Recently I've decided to be an advocate for this whole Zero Waste movement and any other issues related to and associated with that. I wish I had acted on this a long time ago but only recently did I realize how my everyday choices impact our environment. A little over six months ago my boys and I went to the beach with some of our friends. It was the same beach that we go to almost every quarter but this trip was different. Dry Kitchen Trash

I know. I am three months behind in my “A Cleaner Slate” project. I was stuck, to be honest, and frustrated about how things are coming along with this whole zero waste thing. But some people and the zero waste community encouraged and inspired me again to just keep moving forward. I may not be doing it perfectly but progressing slowly anyway. So let’s talk about your dry kitchen trash. What are they, anyway? We’re talking about anything outside food scraps that isn’t plastic (coz by this time that should have been limited already).
