An Over Reacting Newbie
When I visit a blog the first entry is typically the blogger's WHY... their purpose for putting up a blog. Who am I to go against that "tradition."
I am a mom of one, a step mom of one and a partner of a man who loves the beach as much as his sons do. Recently I've decided to be an advocate for this whole Zero Waste movement and any other issues related to and associated with that.
I wish I had acted on this a long time ago but only recently did I realize how my everyday choices impact our environment.
A little over six months ago my boys and I went to the beach with some of our friends. It was the same beach that we go to almost every quarter but this trip was different. My little boy ended up crying. We had to cut his beach time short because the beach and the water was so dirty. Picture below isn't the actual picture but it's so close that it might as well be.
I was so frustrated until I realized I was being a big fat hypocrite. I contributed to the very thing that was frustrating me. That's when I decided that something has got to give.
I started very small. I bought a metal straw for each member of the family. Then we started bringing our own bags to the grocery stores. Until I found myself looking for more ways to send less items to be land filled.
As I was doing that I also started learning more about this problem. And as I learned more my frustration was growing and the need to do more was also growing.
So what's my WHY? I am a newbie zero waste advocate who is over reacting so that people can be made more aware of how our choices impact our environment. I am hoping that by sharing my over reaction to these things I can convince people to do the same. I am hoping that if I share my journey and the options I've taken and will be taking I can make people aware that they have other options.
Our collective efforts will bear results even beyond our lifetime.
Go Zero and Be a Hero to my son, my stepson and all the other children who will inherit this problem if we don't do anything.
